Event Description:
The 2018 legislative session is at an end and the Legislature and Governor have finished doing what they are going to do.  Come hear about what occurred or did not occur this session as well as why it did or did not happen (and where the bones are buried).  Cliff Webster, longtime lobbyist for the Architects and Engineers Legislative Counsel (AELC), as well as Christine Brewer, ACEC’s contract lobbyist, will talk about the session, which bills were important this session and final bill outcomes, including the Capital Budget standoff over the Hirst fix and how AELC was a leader in defeating an anti-contracting out bill, HB 1851.

Cliff and Christine will also talk about the changed dynamics this session in Olympia and the coming election in November.  This session control of the Senate changed from a one-vote Republican majority to a one-vote Democratic majority through a special election.  At the same time, there is also a mere one-vote Democratic majority in the House of Representatives.  Against the backdrop of this closely held control, there have also been 12 announced retirements since session ended.  The moral of this story is that elections have consequences and the coming general election this November will be very important to the A/E community.
